A sunny back garden with a wooden deck at the house end. The idea here was to bring structure to the garden, bringing a sense of compartments. The end boundary was dominated by a neighbour’s tall cypress trees. Three white stemmed Birches became the new focal points. The rear quarter was to be home to a smoker box and shed, so a round top, wooden arch with climbing roses was placed to lead the way through. This shape was echoed in the curved gravel ‘rills’ in the lawn which, in turn, echoed the small, round pond at the deck edge.

A broad gravel path inset with oak sleepers leads to the shed, and this arrangement is repeated in the rear quarter. Planting along the boundaries lends further structure and colour according to East or West aspect, while the pebbled pond surroundings are home to lush marginals.
