This garden is a classic suburban, long narrow space facing north. The client wanted to combine a ‘party garden’ close to the house, with a free range area for the children. It was also important to protect plants from the boisterous family dog and stray footballs. To reduce the runway effect of the long garden the paved ‘party garden’ area was designed to lie at 45 degrees incorporating a change of level too. The smooth rendered raised beds had walls deep enough to perch on and further seating was created by means of hardwood floating benches suspended from the walls. An area further along that caught the best of the evening sun became a hardwood deck lying discreetly flush with the lawn. This was furnished with comfortable lounging sofas for enjoying a sundowner.
